2024 US Open Tennis Theme Art: A Visual Identity
Overview
Each year the USTA commissions theme art as a visual representation of the annual US Open Tennis Championships. It's designed to capture the essence and excitement of the tournament, often highlighting specific themes or celebrating the sport's history, players, or cultural impact. The art is used for various purposes, such as posters, merchandise, and promotional materials.
As the 2024 US Open theme artist, I was tasked with creating a visually compelling representation of the tournament that aligned with the overarching theme of "The Power of Tennis." Departing from the traditional single-layout approach, I developed a scalable design system that allowed the artwork to be adapted for various applications. The centerpiece of this collection is a can of four tennis balls, each symbolizing a distinct aspect of the US Open: Health & Wellness, New York City, Diversity & Inclusion, and Tradition.
